Christian Peace Team, Hebron, March 1, 2019 – Since 2003, Israeli soldiers have closed off a major road to the Palestinian village of Kafr Qaddum under the guise of security for the illegal settlers living nearby in Kedumim.

Villagers have been demonstrating every week after Friday prayers since 2011 for the road to be reopened. Their demonstration is confronted often by tear gas, rubber, and live bullets.

After some negotiations about 3 weeks ago, the Israeli military said that they would open up the road within a month and would convince the settlers that they would remain safe. For the past three weeks, the march has a celebratory air. However, this Friday will be the moment of truth in regards to the Israeli soldiers opening up the road and whether there will be a continued demonstration around this particular demand.

Our hope is to also see Shuhada Street, a once bustling road in Hebron, open again!
