On this eve of Christmas

On this eve of Christmas, our thoughts go out to all bereaved families,
to all victims of human rights abuses. Also in 2002, we will continue to
ensure the right of defense for victims of human rights abuses. In these
difficult times, we express our appreciation for the continued support of
those who support peace with justice. Together with our partners we will
continue our struggle for a better world.

In memory of Johnny Yousef George Thaljieh (16.12.1983 - 20.10.2001)

"On Saturday, October 20, 2001, Johnny Thaljieh, went to pray at the
Nativity Church. After that I told him to go home and he said that he
would do that after visiting uncle Mario. Then we heard shots. People
started shouting and we realized that someone had been injured. I could
not imagine that it would be my son, Johnny. He was bleeding. I held him
and ran for an ambulance. I could not find one. Finally, a police car
took him to al-Hussein hospital where he passed away. He was hit by an
Israeli sniper. Johnny was hit in the heart. He was 17 years old. Hiss
loss has left us in great pain and sorrow."

(from affidavit of Johnny's father, Yousif George Hanna Thaljieh).
