You are the love of God
20th Sunday (B)

The book of Proverbs 9:1-6 (the First Reading) personifies wisdom as a lady who have set her table for her guests "Come, eat of my food, and drink from the wine I have mixed!” God has made everything good, beautiful and ready to serve humans. In his wisdom God invites us to share his love.

Some theologians identify “wisdom” with the “word”. “In the beginning was the Word” “the Logos, in Greek” we read in John 1:1. They said, in fact, wisdom was in the beginning. God is wisdom; Jesus is wisdom. This God who is wisdom, he is love will say also St. John. That is why he will offer everything possible and impossible, even his own life, so as to make mankind happy. As if the existence of God is related to make humans happy. Here comes the real notion of God as father, mother, brother and friend who try always to save humans.
Looking for the salvation of humanity Wisdom in Proverbs  will advise men to find the best way to be happy and avoid sin. “Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding” Pr. 9:6

Saint Paul in the second reading will take from the wisdom of God things to tell us: “Watch carefully how you live”. Then he continues “you should not live as foolish persons but as wise …do not continue in ignorance … do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery”. He then will exhort us to fill ourselves with the “Spirit of God”. St. Paul wants to help us to find the best way to live holy. He will not ask us much. In fact, to be holly, we need just to act wisely in every way. And God who is wisdom will give us his Spirit to change our wrong ways to follow his divine will.

Jesus in the Gospel of today fulfills the wisdom of God in him. He presents himself as then one who provides to us the real life if we understand that he is the real bread of life. He want us to be part of him and make us part of himself, as if we should melt to be one in him. “Amen, amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you” In another place Jesus will say “I am the life”. John 14: 6

In Jesus our lives will find its fulfillment and happiness. In fact, the wisdom of God wants us to become part of his eternal glory, “Who ever eats this bread will live for ever”. What an honor and what a great privilege. God wants to make from us eternity.

You will understand the wisdom of God and his love to us in Jesus when you think for a moment how much you love your children and what you did to make them what they are today. And when you think that you build for them the best thing ever. Your children are your love.

You are the love of God. You are the life of God. His love to you is so big that you just loose your mind when you think of it. Paradise is when you feel that you have been love so much, so much not by humans but by God himself.
