AMMAN – On Monday, February 27, 2017, Our Lady of Peace welcomed a delegation led by Cardinal Mahony, Archbishop Emeritus of Los Angeles, and Archbishop Tomasi, Permanent Observer Emeritus to United Nations Office and Specialized Agencies in Geneva.
The two prelates celebrated morning Mass in the Church of the Good Shepherd, then had a long meeting with many Iraqi refugees from cities of the plain of Nineveh, for the most part Mosul and Qaraqosh, to express the compassion and support of the Church during their exile and time of suffering.
Hundreds of Iraqi families have been welcomed at Our Lady of Peace Center and work there, which guarantees them employment, an income and more dignified living conditions.
During this visit, the delegation was able to quantify the work done on the site of the “Garden of Mercy“, which was offered by Pope Francis and held by Caritas Jordan. This project, initiated in October 2016, has mobilized craftsmen, engineers, seamstresses and farmers. Wooden furniture and bags are made there. The project also assures the production of soap and olive oil for sale.
